Rear O2 Oxygen Sensor 31480393 Heated Lambda Sensor for Volvo Air flow sensors facilitating vehicle maintenance
Air flow sensor
OE NO.: 31480393 31460846
Applicable vehicle type: For Volvo
The oxygen sensor can convert the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas into an electrical signal and transmit it to the engine control unit (ECU), providing a key basis for the closed-loop control of the fuel injection system.
The common faults of automotive oxygen sensors mainly include carbon deposit blockage, damage to ceramic components, heater failure, etc., as specifically described below:
Carbon Deposit Blockage
When the engine combustion is incomplete (such as poor fuel injector atomization, spark plug failure), carbon deposits and oil stains in the exhaust gas will adhere to the surface of the ceramic probe of the oxygen sensor, isolating the probe from contact with the exhaust gas. This causes the sensor to be unable to perceive changes in oxygen concentration, resulting in distorted output signals, and subsequently leading to problems such as unstable engine idle and increased fuel consumption.
Ceramic Component Damage
The core sensitive component of the oxygen sensor is made of ceramic material, which is relatively brittle. If during maintenance, high-pressure air is directly blown onto the sensor or sharp tools are used to touch the probe, it can cause the ceramic tube to crack. In addition, high-temperature alternating conditions of the exhaust pipe and road vibration causing the sensor to loosen and collide can also lead to damage of the ceramic components. Once damaged, the sensor will completely lose its working ability.
Heater Failure
Modern automotive oxygen sensors are mostly heated types, with built-in heating resistance wires that can quickly raise the sensor to a working temperature of over 300°C. If the heating resistance wire is burned out, the fuse in the heating circuit is blown, or there is poor contact in the wiring, the sensor cannot reach the working temperature. After cold start, this will result in signal delay or even no signal, affecting the air-fuel ratio control of the engine during the cold start phase.
