The rear shock absorber is a crucial component of the suspension system, used to suppress rebound after the spring absorbs shocks and to absorb road impacts, thereby enhancing comfort, handling, and safety. Currently, mainstream products can be categorized into four major types: ordinary hydraulic, air-filled, adaptive damping, and electronically controlled intelligent types.

Structural types and working principles

Twin-tube hydraulic: Generates damping force through oil flow through the piston valve system; low cost and easy maintenance, but prone to thermal fade during continuous high-frequency operation.

Mono-tube gas: High-pressure nitrogen separates the oil from air, providing fast heat dissipation and strong resistance to thermal fade, with more direct response, commonly used in sports or heavy-duty vehicles.

Adaptive damping: Adds frequency or amplitude sensing valves on a conventional valve system to automatically adjust damping force based on road excitation; no need for electronic control, balancing comfort and handling.

Electronically controlled intelligent: Achieves millisecond-level damping changes using electromagnetic valves or magnetorheological fluid, supports driving mode switching, suitable for high-end and new energy vehicles.
